Game Concept
Vesper is a first person virtual reality game in which the player explores the world
through the eyes of a bat. Bat colonies in the game have been afflicted with White
Nose Syndrome, and the player’s overarching goal is to bring a cure to his nocturnal
companions.
White Nose Syndrome is an actual, emerging real world infection, caused by the
fungus P. Destructans, which has been responsible for approximately 6 million bat
deaths in North America during the past 4 years. Scientists are currently researching
a potential cure in the form of a soil-inhabiting bacteria, called Rhodococcus,
which releases a gas which stops the fungus from growing.
In Vesper the player has to find patches of ‘Rhodoc’ soil and deliver this cure to
infected bat caves. Doing so unlocks additional abilities which will allow the player
to discover new regions in the game.
